THE DEPARTMENT:Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) serves as the lead organization for planning, developing, and maintaining the campus’ natural and built environments in support of the university’s mission. The department seeks to preserve and enhance CPP’s history, aesthetics, physical assets, and natural ecosystems through coordinated planning, design, and construction of buildings, roads, infrastructure, landscaping and other physical improvements. As an advocate on behalf of the university and its auxiliaries, FPM strives to provide facilities that meet scope, budget, operational needs and functional requirements. FPM is comprised of approximately 200 facilities professionals (FTE) that also provides maintenance services including custodial services, landscaping, recycling, building and mechanical trades, energy and utility management, fleet and auto services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Pick up ground trash and debris on a daily and weekly schedule; empty trash and recycling containers on a daily and weekly schedule. Loading and unloading material into and out of trucks and utility vehicles.
- Move loaded materials, such as barrels, bags, boxes, and other containers.
- Sorting, cleaning, and loading paper, pallets, glass, wood, plastic, metal and cardboard, other recyclables and trash in accordance with program guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness of trash and recycling containers.
- Report work orders as needed to Customer Service.
- Make reports of safety concerns and of equipment repair needs.
- Maintain vehicles and moving equipment, while demonstrating strict knowledge of and adherence to established safety guidelines and requirements.
- Maintain records of work completed and problems encountered. Prepare simple records, have good communications skills; ability to drive state vehicles.
- Must be familiar with usage of simple hand tools and perform minor repairs.
- Perform event set-up and removal for Commencement and other special events.
- May assist in grounds maintenance operations.
- Assist in Recycling projects and clean-ups, and other related duties as required and instructed.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid CA Driver's license with insurance.
- Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; perform regular strenuous manual labor; and safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Operate utilities vehicles with trailers and street sweeping equipment. Must be able to drive a state vehicle.
Compensation Notice This position is offered under the CSU classification and salary structure in effect at the time of posting. Please note that the CSU compensation system for this classification will transition to a step-based structure following implementation effective October 1, 2025. Employees in this classification will move to the step system after hire, in accordance with CSU guidelines.

CSU Classification Salary RangeThis position is part of the CSUEU bargaining unit 5. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website . The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $3,461 and maximum $4,752 per month. University Driving RequirementPositions that require driving for university business by using a personal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1. Have a valid California or other State Driver’s license. 2. Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof) 3. Not have more than 3 DMV Points, if their license is Class C or, 4. Not have more than 5 DMV Points, if their license is Class A, B, or C with endorsements.
