Why you’ll love this position: Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center have an opening for a Psychiatrist. Our facility consists of an Adult Psychiatric Services unit, which treats primarily Forensic clients as adjudicated by the criminal court, and the Sex Offender Rehabilitation and Treatment Services unit, which treat patients adjudicated as Sexually Violent Predators. Both units have specialized programs serving subpopulations of each group. Depending on your interests, teaching (through our affiliations with two nearby medical schools), administrative duties, and participation in program development/evaluation can be included in your duties. This is a licensed professional position accountable for the assessment and treatment of mental illnesses. Provides complete psychiatric services including assessment, diagnosis, medical prescription, and treatment. Responsible for more elaborate, complex, and precise evaluation and care to severely mentally and/or emotionally ill adults, adolescents, and/or children. Prescribes, evaluates, and monitors administration of medications. Leads interdisciplinary teams in evaluating new patients and writes admission and discharge orders. Serves as a consultant to other medical staff, prepares/submits evaluation reports to the courts, and testifies in court proceedings.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
Knowledge of professional principles and practices of medicine and psychiatry, and of current theories and practices in the field of mental health. Knowledge of medications and their effects on physical and psychological disorders. Ability to provide expert witness testimony regarding the status of patients’ psychological condition.
Minimum Qualifications: - Licensure as a Psychiatrist.
