THE POSITIONSanitation Roll-Off Driver (ON-CALL) This position is an On-Call position. May be assigned to work up to 28 hours per week. Will be assigned work in the event additional staff is needed to ensure appropriate coverage.
Duties assigned to this position include:
- Collects debris boxes and/or compactors filled with garbage, refuse, trash and recyclables.
- Hauls containers to prescribed disposal sites.
- Returns containers to original location or places properly in storage site.
- Work is performed alone, without a helper or collector.
- Performs a daily operations/safety check, regular cleaning, and servicing of assigned specialized vehicles (including filling the vehicle with fuel, water, and oil as well as checking the brake and hydraulic systems).
- Skillfully operates a variety of heavy refuse collection equipment such as trucks and drop bodies in the collection of commercial and residential refuse.
- Operates vehicles safely in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Ensures work is performed in a safe manner including the use of safe work methods, proper use of vehicles, and handling of drop-boxes and compactors.
- May act as a relief Sanitation Driver.
- Performs other related duties.
Minimum Requirements : Any Combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Graduation from high school or equivalent and two (2) years of experience equivalent to a Sanitation Driver.
License and Certificates : Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license without any airbrake restrictions is required.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURESApplication Review: Applications will be reviewed for immediate consideration. Following the application review, the most qualified candidates will be forwarded to the Public Works Department for further evaluation, which may include demonstration of the ability to physically perform the duties of the po sition.
