    Full-time position available with the Water Department, Laboratory Division located at 2 NE 32nd Avenue
    Salary Range: $5,794-$8.833/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Works in a supervisory position in a nationally accredited laboratory that performs advanced and complex chemical, bacteriological and physical tests.
    • Performs as needed the specialized and complex chemical analysis of raw and treated water as well as sewage samples and other related materials.
    • Sets up and operates specialized instrumentation.
    • Develops and modifies procedures and methods, training, assigning tasks, interpreting test results, reviewing results and preparing reports.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited bachelor's degree in an environmentally related field such as Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Studies or related sciences and 4 years performing environmental analyses with a minimum of 1 year at a supervisory level; OR high school graduation and 8 years performing environmental analyses with a minimum of 1 year at a supervisory level. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Preference given for MS mass spec experience, laboratory experience; writing SOPs; providing training; Excel/PowerPoint/Word; and experience with complex instrumentation and analysis, LIMS programs and other aspects laboratory technology is preferred.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
