    Full-time position available with the City Planning Department, Directors Division, located at 414 E 12th St.
    Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hourly
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides CPD customers with critical, early-stage information to help them understand and comply with the rules and regulations related to the development of land and the construction of buildings.
    • Provides support through reviews of non-technical electrical and building work that expedites the issuance of permits.
    • Responds to walk-in, phone and e-mail questions related to the building and zoning codes and other inquiries related to CPD regulations and procedures.
    • Reviews of scope of work requests.
    • Refers customer to appropriate resources within CPD or to outside departments.
    • Assists citizens in filing online applications.
    • Directs people to appropriate resources on www.kcmo.gov
    • Possess knowledge of the international and residential building codes, development and zoning code, and Chapter 18 Kansas City Building and Rehabilitation code.
    • Develop a strong understanding of the CPD services.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in economics, sociology, multi-disciplinary social science or urban affairs, urban planning, public or business administration, engineering, or architecture; OR high school graduation and 4 years of professional experience in economic or community development work, planning, building codes administration, engineering, architecture, or neighborhood development programs.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
