Under general supervision, is responsible for performing crime and intelligence analysis work for the purpose of reporting and presenting crime information, statistical trends, and criminal intelligence in support of the Austin Police Department.
Job Description:Purpose:Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing crime and intelligence analysis work for the purpose of reporting and presenting crime information, statistical trends, and criminal intelligence in support of the Austin Police Department.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Performs tactical crime analysis to support investigations.
- Performs tactical crime analysis to support patrol efforts.
- Updates and maintains a log or database of criminal offenses to facilitate tactical analysis.
- Performs strategic crime analysis.
- Performs intelligence analysis.
- Develops a variety of analytical products.
- Facilitates the transfer of crime information between Local, Fusion, Regional, State, and Federal agencies.
- Thinks critically, questions assumptions, and avoids bias with respect to sources, research methods, and document creation.
- Uses a vast array of software applications and resources, most at an intermediate level.
- Attends and participates in unit, departmental, and professional meetings.
- Works as part of a team with other analysts, sworn personnel, and personnel from other agencies to provide analytical assistance, collect and disseminate intelligence, and share resources.
- May testify in Court. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Social Science, or in a field of study with an emphasis on research or analysis, plus two (2) years of experience in research, crime analysis, intelligence analysis, and/or interpretation of law enforcement data.
- Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
- Certification by the International Association of Crime Analysts or the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
- Master’s Degree in the fields of study listed above may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:None.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience providing extensive analytical support to patrol operations
- Experience producing, disseminating, and presenting analytical products
- Experience using commercial and law enforcement software and databases such as i2 Analyst’s Notebook, ESRI ArcGIS Pro, Accurint, and TLO
- Experience using open-source intelligence techniques to locate information and identify investigative leads
- Experience in applying various crime intelligence analysis and policing models, theories, methodologies and techniques
- Ability to travel
Notes to Candidate:This Crime Intelligence Analyst position will provide tactical analytical support to the Austin Police Department’s Data and Analytics Division and specifically the tactical patrol analysis team. This team supports patrol operations by interpreting and analyzing crime trends and identifying emerging patterns in order to guide decision making leading up to a response. Using qualitative and quantitative information, the Crime Intelligence Analyst provides timely, actionable intelligence to patrol officers and command staff so that they can make informed decisions in the field and strategically deploy resources. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will perform professional level work involving the analysis of a variety of tactical and strategic reports. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of a variety of datasets, and a proven ability to conduct relevant statistical analyses. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to prioritize, while effectively managing competing demands and deadlines. The top candidate must also have excellent business writing skills, proofreading, and communication skills. Strong candidates will have a knowledge of law
enforcement operations and criminal behavior.

Payrate: $26.61- $31.87hr
