The City of Newport Beach is seeking motivated individuals to serve the community as Maintenance Workers for the Public Works Department . This entry level position provides an excellent opportunity to learn and make a difference in the coastal surroundings of Newport Beach. Maintenance workers may be assigned to Street Maintenance, Beach Maintenance, Park/Landscape Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance, Fleet/Equipment Maintenance, or another area of assignment. The selected candidates will be tasked with performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work which may require the operation of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment, hand tools, power tools, and other mechanical equipment. This position may also assist in other areas of maintenance as needed. SELECTION COMPONENTS: - Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on Tuesday , October 14 , 2 025 or at 150 applications - whichever comes first . The recruitment will remain open until the positions are filled.

RETIREMENT : - The City offers an excellent benefits package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% of pensionable income or half the total normal cost toward the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/CertificateA combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience : One year of experience performing routine maintenance, construction, and repair work applicable to the area of assignment.
Education : Equivalent to graduation from high school.
License(s) : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
