    Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. Some evening/weekend work required. Hybrid work arrangements may be available, with up to three days per week remote, after completing the initial six-month probationary period.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
    • Three (3) years of professional civil engineering experience, two (2) of which must be related to civil engineering design and construction projects and/or infrastructure design/review of private development projects
    • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six months of employment.
    • Valid driver's license

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and great verbal and written communication skills.
    • At least three (3) years of experience in bridge design, construction, or rehabilitation
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and bridge inspection or bridge asset management experience.

    The Sr. Professional Engineer - Bridges job responsibilities include:
    • Perform design and construction project management and professional civil engineering work including design, construction inspection, contract administration and construction plan and specification review of bridge rehabilitation projects of varying scope and complexity under one or more funding programs in a fast-paced environment.
    • Work independently to perform project management and professional civil engineering work to deliver multiple simultaneous bridge rehabilitation projects while coordinating with a variety of stakeholders to deliver projects within budget and on schedule within very tight time constraints.
    • Develop a bridge asset management plan to strategize the rehabilitation of City bridges over a five-year period.
    • Review designs and detailed drawings of bridges, retaining walls, and related structures prepared by consultants.
    • Provide specifications, estimating, quantity calculations, and other construction documents to advertise and bid projects.
    • Review and approve payment requests and perform other tasks as needed while utilizing City of Fort Worth software/systems and processes.
    • Provide direct support to the Engineering Manager and assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, goals and objectives and make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
    • Communicating proactively about projects with City leadership, stakeholders in other City departments, residents of the City of Fort Worth and state and federal agencies.

    Working Conditions and Physical Demands

    Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing and balancing.

    Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.

    Medical Program

    The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

    Vacation

    Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
