The Position Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Bureau of Safe Drinking Water (BSDW) is seeking an Environmental Scientist for the Data Management Branch in the Las Vegas area. Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning, development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections, enforcement, and technical support services for the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water program. This Environmental Scientist position will be the regulatory lead for investigating, implementing, and managing the Public Notice Rule and Consumer Confidence Rule requirements promulgated by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The position will also be responsible for evaluating, tracking and enforcing other Public Water System compliance with state and federal regulations. This scientist will perform site inspections, review chemical monitoring data, perform operator certification verification, establish monitoring & maintenance requirements, communicate with and present to the regulated community and general public, write reports and technical letters, and track compliance of public water systems with regulatory requirements. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
