    Education and Experience : High School Diploma, GED or higher, and completion of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) training course (6 weeks) through Western Technical College, and one (1) year of experience in the electronics technology field, diagnosing and repairing process control equipment and instruments.

    Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment.

    Note - Upon successful completion of a six (6) month El Paso Water on-the-job training program, the trainee will be hired as a regular Instrumentation Control Technician.

    General Purpose

    Under immediate supervision, trains on methods, techniques, and practices used to perform maintenance and calibration of process control equipment in water and wastewater facilities.

    Typical Duties

    Attend and complete classroom and field training sessions to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the Instrumentation Control Technician. Involves: Classroom training to learn how to maintain process-control equipment such as flow and metering devices, pressure transmitters, level measuring devices, electronic instrumentation systems, and other related electronic or electromechanical equipment used in a water or wastewater treatment plant or distributed remote facilities.

    Participate in field training to learn the proper operation of inspection equipment and systems. Involves: Calibrating equipment and validating results using digital multimeters and a variety of other test instruments. Troubleshoot malfunctions of computerized control devices, control and instrument loops, instruments for activated sludge systems, water treatment, and the SCADA systems. Respond to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis and work outside normal working hours as needed. Maintain the cleanliness of tools, work areas, and the assigned vehicle. Follow standard operating procedures and safety practices. Maintain and update files, records, reports, and logs.
