    The Position

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    The Governor's Finance Office is recruiting for an Executive Branch Economist geographically located in Carson City, Nevada. The position conducts research and analysis of economic, social, industrial and employment factors in order to identify trends and implications on the State; forecasts and tracks diverse state tax revenues and researches how other changes might affect revenues; prepares in-depth reports of statistical and economic data; presents findings and recommendations to the Governor and his staff, the Finance Director and Deputies and presents and defends revenue forecasts to the state's Economic Forum; and assist the Director of the Governor's Finance Office with data collection for various meetings within the Executive Branch. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, labor economics, econometrics, statistics or related field and three years of professional experience which included economic research, model building, forecasting, fiscal and trend analysis and interpretation and the development of presentations, reports and recommendations. This experience must have involved the application of advanced statistical mathematical and economic principles and research modeling; OR two years of experience as an Economist III in Nevada State service performing duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Additional Position Criteria This position is subject to flexible/rotating shifts and overtime. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
