    The Position

    Auditors conduct audits on accounts, records, activities, operations and/or internal controls of individuals, business organizations, State agencies or other government jurisdictions subject to State taxation or regulation to ensure compliance with State and federal rules and regulations and legal requirements and/or proper safeguarding of agency funds.

    The Department of Taxation is filling Auditor 2 positions within the Excise & Local Government Services Division in the Carson City office. Incumbents perform independent financial audits of taxpayer records. Complexity of Net Proceeds of Minerals Tax and the corresponding financial records are involved. The incumbent must communicate with and assist taxpayers, prepare a complete audit report of the findings, and independently work in the field at the audit site. The incumbent must be able to analyze taxpayers' financials, enter the audit information into our software program on a laptop computer, and must have a basic knowledge of common software such as Excel and Word. Additionally, the candidate should keep organized working files and be able to comprehend instruction quickly. Overnight travel is required a few times a year. An accounting degree is preferred.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of professional level auditing or accounting experience involving analyzing financial information and making recommendations based upon that analysis; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Auditor I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. This position requires a State of Nevada/FBI background check, at the cost of the applicant. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
