The Position Prison Industries Supervisors manage, plan, organize and supervise operation(s) of Prison Industries program(s) and ensure their profitable operation.
The Nevada Department of Corrections has a vacancy for a Prison Industries Supervisor 1 - Ranch. Incumbent must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of horse training techniques used to train wild horses. Qualified candidates must be able to complete duties with little day to day supervision at times. Qualified candidates must know how to identify and treat minor equine related illness and ailments as well as understand farmer work and perform minor hoof work. Incumbents will manage, plan, organize, and supervise operations of Prison Industries programs and ensure their profitable operation. Prison Industries Supervisor 1 - Horse trainer will demonstrate best practices for training wild horses to inmate horse trainers. Additional duties include monitoring horse health and keeping records of movement and treatment. Demonstrate to and train inmates on hoof care and farrier work. Coordinate with ranch manager on scheduling training horses. At times, work will include other ranch duties as needed. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration or closely related field and one year of supervisory experience in a business environment producing manufactured goods or providing services including setting production/work schedules, recordkeeping, and ensuring availability of materials and supplies; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Positions in this series may require industry specific education and experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
