    THE CITY

    Culver City is a Charter City incorporated in 1917, and is a destination filled with outdoor cafes, unique shops and galleries opening onto pedestrian-friendly boulevards. Culver City has a dedicated staff of approximately 700+ employees with an overall operating budget of over $368 million. The City provides a full range of municipal services including Fire, Police, Housing & Human Services, Planning & Development, Public Works, Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, and Transportation.

    THE POSITION

    SENIOR RECREATION LEADER
    DUTIES:
    • Plans, coordinates, and supervises recreation activities at a park, playground, after school program or other recreation facility.
    • Interprets recreation programs and policies to the public and enforces departmental policies.
    • Investigates complaints, suggestions, and requests concerning recreation programs and makes recommendations to the Recreation Specialist.
    • Prepares and presents concise and comprehensive written and verbal reports to a Recreation Specialist or Recreation Coordinator.
    • Inspects the maintenance of facilities and equipment used in recreation programs to ensure their adequacy and safety.
    • Assists with City wide special events.
    • May assist with the maintenance of recreational facilities, as needed.
    • Senior Recreation Leaders may supervise and train Recreation Leaders.
    • Performs other related duties.

    There are immediate vacancies within the following divisions:
    • CCARP (Culver City Afterschool Recreation Program): The Culver City After School Program is responsible for providing after school care to children at facilities located near or at local school sites. Programs are offered Monday through Friday from the end of the school day to 6:00 p.m. Program components include academic improvement, health & fitness and cultural activities. This Division is responsible for working in partnership with the local school and developing additional activities in support of the school and its objectives.
    • Senior Center: The Culver City Senior Center is an active adult recreation center serving adults age 50+. The Center offers dozens of classes weekly from yoga to watercolors, boxing to sign language. The Center also offers ongoing educational workshops, programming for adults with disabilities, support groups and more and has more than 3,800 members. Staff will lead groups such as the walking group, host BINGO, rock painting and more.

    THE DEPARTMENT:
    Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS)


    The PRCS Department consists of different programs and divisions including the Recreation Division and Senior & Social Services. These divisions provide a variety of programs for children, young adults, seniors and residents with disabilities.     MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and ability would be: completion of 60 college semester units OR (2) years of experience in the area of recreation, community or social services.

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATE(S): Candidate will be required to possess certifications in First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within one (1) month of employment.

    SCHEDULE: Part-time hours, working approximately up to 28 hours a week. Schedules will vary depending on the needs of the department.

    EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

    Suitability for the position will be evaluated by an application review. This evaluation will be qualifying, i.e., it will determine who will be invited to the Oral Appraisal Interview. The Oral Appraisal Interview will evaluate training, experience and personal qualifications.
