    Job Description:

    Public Health Program Coordinator

    Purpose:

    Under general direction or working independently, administer and coordinate activities of an assigned public health and/or human services program area.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Plans goals, objectives, for assigned programs.
    • Develops policies and procedures.
    • Evaluates programs to determine compliance with Federal, State, Local, and departmental regulations.
    • Develops and conducts orientation and training sessions for program staff.
    • Assists in budget preparation.
    • Promotes assigned programs through relevant media.
    • Investigates client or community complaints.
    • Handles personnel issues
    • Performs other tasks as required.


    Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:

    May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of the area of specialization.
    • Knowledge of current principles and practices of planning and program implementation.
    • Knowledge of organization and administration of public health and/or human service programs.
    • Knowledge of program monitoring and policy analysis.
    • Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
    • Skill in establishing effective and constructive working relationships.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus four (4) years of experience in a field related to public health/human services programming, public health/human services planning, or public health/human services program management.
    • Related experience may substitute for education up to a maximum substitution of four (4) years.
    • Graduation with a master's degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for one (1) year of the required work experience.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Ability to develop partnerships and collaborations across sectors
    • Experience leading work groups and managing large projects
    • Experience developing or implementing evidence-based public health promotion or substance use prevention programs or policy interventions
    • 1 year of professional experience in substance use disorder prevention or treatment
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location


    Notes to Candidate:

    Position Overview

    This position serves a Public Health Program Coordinator for drug overdose prevention within Austin Public Health. This position is responsible for capacity building at the local level for more effective and sustainable drug overdose prevention efforts with a focus on opioid-related overdoses. This position will develop and maintain subject matter expertise on drug overdose prevention, identify evidence-base prevention program and polices that could meet the needs of the community, identify and engage stakeholders, establish partnerships with public, private and nonprofit organizations, build and maintain multi-disciplinary coalitions and work groups, and collaborate with partners to leverage resources for advancing overdose prevention efforts. This position will coordinate APH's efforts to expand access to naloxone including conducting trainings on overdose response and distributing naloxone. This position will facilitate the Overdose Fatality Review (OFR), a nationally recognized model used to generate recommendations to help local jurisdictions prevent future overdose deaths. Roles may include facilitating Overdose Fatality Review team meetings, compiling data and conducting next-of-kin interviews, facilitating workgroups and developing recommendations. This position will be responsible for contract management and contract monitoring

    Compensation Range

    Min 57,970 - Mid 70,720 Annually

    Hours

    Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eligible for Hybrid Schedule with Management Approval

    Grant Funded
    • This position is grant-funded, meaning its financial support comes from allocated funds that may be modified, reduced, or canceled at the discretion of the City of Austin or the grant provider.


    Immunization Requirement
    • Due to high-risk areas, Austin Public Health employees must comply with the department’s immunization policy.

    • This position is eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSF) Program. This federal program is intended to encourage individuals to work in public service by forgiving the balance of their federal student loans. To qualify, the individual must have made 120 qualifying payments while employed by a qualifying employer.

    Travel

    City Government
