Job Description:Purpose: Under close supervision, perform apprentice level routine building and equipment maintenance tasks in repair, installation, maintenance and construction for electrical, electronics, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and electromechanical systems in all AUS facilities.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Assists trade crews in the completion of assigned work orders, including materials ready, performing preventative maintenance inspections, repairs and new equipment installation activities.
- Performs preventative maintenance activities on all facility equipment and system components.
- Assists with modifications or equipment refurbishments and upgrades.
- Assists with the maintenance activities performed by third party contractors.
- Assists with performing system diagnostics, calibrations, troubleshooting and repairs.
- Operates various hand and power tools to include drills, grinders, sanders, power saws, sewer machines, pro-press, shop vacuums, water jetters, etc.
- Assists in repairing system equipment and components using aerial man lifts.
- Performs operations and maintenance tasks including confined space entry and works in hazardous environments.
- Maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests and records the information in the Asset Management System (MS).

- Ability to respond quickly and perform strenuous work under emergency situations and all-weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to 200 feet.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent. Relevant work experience may substitute for education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:Valid State of Texas Class "C" Driver’s License.
Notes to Candidate:POSITION OVERVIEW:Assist trade crews with work orders, preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment installations. Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system calibrations to ensure reliable operations. Support equipment upgrades, refurbishments, and contractor maintenance activities. Safely operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and aerial lifts. Carry out maintenance tasks in confined spaces and hazardous environments. Maintain accurate records of repairs and inspections in the Asset Management System (MS).
Salary:$22.48 - $25.24
DRIVING REQUIREMENT:This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA.
This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.

SHIFT INCENTIVE:Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL:This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.
VETERAN:Veteran candidates will be required to provide a copy of their DD214 at the time of interview.
