The Fingerprint Technician plays a vital role in supporting Law Enforcement operations by performing a variety of technical and administrative duties related to fingerprinting criminal history processing, and identity verification. This position is responsible for collecting fingerprints from the public, employees, and recruits; processing arrest records; issuing access credentials and permits; and handling sensitive documentation such as court orders and compromised identity claims. The technician ensures compliance with local state, and federal regulations while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of all records and systems. This role requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with law enforcement databases, and a commitment to public service .
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with at least one (1) year experience in general office or clerical duties. Must type 25 correct words per minute and have knowledge of Henry Fingerprint Classification System. Must complete forty-hour (40 hour) FBI Basic Fingerprint Classification course or equivalent completion of FCIC Limited Access Operator Training within one (1) year of employment. Must pass police background investigation, which includes polygraph examinatio n (polygraph required with the exception of current OPD employees).

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
- Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
- Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
- Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
