    Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the Payment Services Manager, the Payment Technician II performs a broad range of accounts payable functions. This position is responsible for processing payment requests, reconciling accounts, resolving transactional discrepancies, and providing customer support. It requires applied knowledge of financial systems and adherence to CSU and university policy.

    The Payment Services team currently operates on a hybrid schedule: team members will work 3 days per week in the office and telecommute 2 days per week. Schedule requirements could change based on project needs.

    Department Summary

    The Strategic Business Services (SBS) division within Cal Poly's Administration & Finance organization provides vital services across the procure-to-pay lifecycle, travel coordination, enterprise risk management, and real estate operations. SBS supports daily operational needs while promoting innovative initiatives and strategic partnerships.

    Within SBS, the Payment Services - Accounts Payable (PSAP) team ensures timely and accurate non-payroll disbursements to vendors, suppliers, and university stakeholders. The team is essential to maintaining the university’s financial integrity and compliance with state and federal regulations.

    Key Qualifications
    • Thorough knowledge of accounts payable practices, financial recordkeeping, and general office methods.
    • Ability to review and audit documents for completeness, accuracy, and policy compliance.
    • Ability to process, code, and post transactions accurately and efficiently.
    • Working knowledge of reconciliation procedures, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
    • Ability to interpret and apply a variety of financial policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Excel, including data entry, and basic formulas and data analysis.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


    Education and Experience
    • A combination of experience and education which has provided the above knowledge and abilities which at minimum includes equivalent to three years of accounts payable experience or closely related financial recordkeeping experience.

    Salary and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $51,408 - $61,440 per year

    Classification Range: $48,444 - $70,572 per year

    Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
