    Description:

    The SLASH Crew Supervisor leads and directs daily operations of Jefferson County’s SLASH Program, supervising a team performing semi-skilled and skilled labor to remove woody materials and support wildfire mitigation efforts. This is a hands-on leadership role-participating in fieldwork and operating equipment on an as-needed basis-while providing clear direction, training, and oversight to ensure efficient, high-quality work. Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage crews, coordinate tasks, and maintain a safe and productive work environment.

    SCHEDULE:

    This standard, full-time position can expect to work Monday-Thursday (10-hour days) in-office.

    COMPENSATION:

    Hiring Range: $35.00 - $41.80 USD Hourly

    Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the removal and mitigation of wood and other organic materials to support wildfire mitigation. Address routine and non-routine situations and determine solutions. Ensure adherence to establish standards, procedures, and OSHA safety guidelines. Oversee seasonal staffing.
    • Manage logistics and resource needs, including scheduling equipment, coordinating purchases or rentals, and creating and submitting purchase orders.
    • Ensure safety protocols are followed. Document and report all incidents, accidents, and damage to equipment and property in accordance with county protocols.
    • Coordinate and negotiate with external partners and vendors to establish agreements for SLASH site dates, times, and locations. Ensure partners and vendors meet the terms of the agreements and site use permit.
    • Work with County Attorney to develop and review contracts. Ensure vendors and contractors are in compliance with contract requirements.
    • Manage data collection, analysis, and develop reports for SLASH program planning. Evaluate program performance and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, safety, and community impact. Review program staffing needs and identify opportunities for growth and efficiency.
    • Prepare and submit budget requests, grant proposals, financial documentation, and related materials to support program growth and funding sustainability. Communicate with internal divisions and other departments on needs including the purchase of new equipment, borrowing equipment, and the exchange of equipment.
    • Support grant development through the identification of funding opportunities, writing grant proposals, creating detailed budgets, and ensuring timely submission. Oversees post-award responsibilities, including expenditure tracking, reporting, and compliance.
    • Plan and manage public events, educational sessions, and outreach activities to promote fire mitigation and community participation in the SLASH program. Participate in regional state and county wildfire mitigation and awareness working groups.
    • Conduct community surveys to assess program relevance and responsiveness to community needs to inform program growth and development. Utilizes data to make recommendations for improvements.
    • Supports planning and site selection for new SLASH locations in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives. Submits personnel records and reports as required by the county. Assists and advises subordinates as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • 5 years of work-related experience.
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Forestry or a related field.
    • Note an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.


    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Current Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification.
    • Class A CDL with Tanker and manual endorsement and Air Brake restriction removed as well as a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card.
    • Current Flagger certification.
    • Current Traffic Control Supervisor certification.
    • Current International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist.
    • Experience in the operation of heavy equipment and/or vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more.
