    The Position

    Facility Supervisors/Managers plan, organize and direct buildings and grounds maintenance, repair, custodial work, security functions, and fleet maintenance and supervise skilled and semi-skilled staff.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR), protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The NDCNR with over 900 employees consists of the Director's Office and the following divisions and programs: Environmental Protection, Forestry, State Lands, State Parks, Water Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Heritage, State Historic Preservation Office, Off-Highway Vehicles, Sagebrush Ecosystem, and the Conservation Districts Program. The Department also provides support staff to the Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and has responsibility for numerous Boards, Commissions, and Councils. The Department has locations and/or provides program services in every community of the State.

    This position is in the State Historic Preservation Office and is located at the Comstock History Center in Virginia City, NV. Under general supervision by the Comstock Preservation & History Officer, the position's duties include facility maintenance and supervision, custodial services, facility administration, and interpretative programming. The position inspects, identifies deficiencies, adjusts, and monitors mechanical and electrical devices including the HVAC system, plumbing systems, security/fire monitoring systems, lighting, emergency lighting, structural issues, fixtures, adjacent landscape, and ventilation and refrigeration systems. The position will clean the exterior and the interior of the building including the restrooms and the facility grounds. The position will perform basic preventative maintenance, unclog plumbing, do painting touch-ups, remove snow and ice for safety purposes, and other tasks as needed. The position will schedule and evaluate the work of contractors engaged in minor building repairs, grounds maintenance, and security. The position operates the museum during public hours, including greeting guests, answering questions, accepting museum donations, and providing public education. The position develops and installs museum exhibits and facilitates school group visits and programs. The incumbent may be required to work weekends.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in building construction or building maintenance; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules and may be subject to call-back for response to emergencies. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level.
