    DESCRIPTION

    The Department is now recruiting for the position of Clerk Typist III. This recruitment is anticipated to close on Friday, November 17, 2025, at 11:59 PM OR when 100 applications are received, whichever occurs first.

    The Long Beach Police Department is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time, unclassified Clerk Typist III position in the Strategic Initiatives Bureau, Information Management Division. This position offers an excellent opportunity for professional development and provides valuable exposure to a wide range of administrative and operational support functions in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.

    The Long Beach Police Department is the second largest municipal police agency in Los Angeles County and provides law enforcement services to the 7th largest city in the State of California.     Selected candidates will be required to pass a thorough background investigation.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Create purchase orders and direct payments for division needs and coordinates the processing of Technology Service Requests.
    • Perform or assist with asset inventory management.
    • Answer Division and Administrator phone lines.
    • Sort and distribute incoming mail.
    • Prepare, type, and proofread correspondence, reports, memos, and other documents.
    • Monitor and maintain the Division Administrator’s calendar and scheduling needs.
    • Arrange meetings, conferences and teleconferences as needed.
    • Assign, track, and complete project tasks as directed.
    • Assist with special projects as needed.
    • Maintain division files and records.
    • Run reports and queries on Long Beach Police Departments technology systems.
    • Tracks and monitors the completion of division project assignments from creation through completion as directed.
    • Provide backup to the Bureau Secretary as necessary.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS
    • Ability to type neatly and accurately at a net speed of 40 words per minute.
    • Ability to file in alphabetical and numerical order.
    • Ability to make simple mathematical computations.
    • Ability to correct errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the public.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • At least three (3) years of professional experience performing progressively responsible clerical functions in an office setting.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Experience working for a law enforcement agency or public safety entity.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suit (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and Outlook).
    • Familiarity with City applications such as RMS, MUNIS, Spark, Laserfiche, and Business Objects Enterprise.

    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Demonstrate organizational and time management capabilities.
    • Flexibility in taking on new tasks and assignments.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to work with staff and management at all levels of the department and the City, and demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
    • Willingness to learn new software programs and an interest in technology.
