We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of Media Relations and Public Affairs Manager. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 15 paid holidays a year.
Salary
The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $90,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position Information
The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Media Relations and Public Affairs Manager to be responsible for leading efforts to advance the reputation of the university through effective use of external communications channels and proactive and reactive media relations.
This position is approved for telecommuting (two days telecommuting, three days in office (in-person)) with onsite work at the main headquarters located in Long Beach, California.
Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Director of Media Relations and Public Affairs, the Media Relations and Public Affairs Manager will perform duties as outlined below:
Student Media Relations
-Manage and implement the office’s student media strategy that fosters transparent, educational and constructive engagement with student media.
-Coordinate and collaborate with campus communications offices.
-Serve as the primary point of contact for student media inquiries.
General Media Relations
-Provide media relations support, including contributing to media strategy; developing relations with reporters and editors; coordinating media response; staffing interviews; and media pitching.
-Liaise with CSU administrators, staff and faculty to prepare responses to media inquiries.
-Collaborate with the Media Relations and Public Affairs Coordinator to ensure that media distribution lists are updated and relevant.
Writing and Content Development
-Writes press releases, briefing documents, public statements, op-eds, media pitches, web page content to support media relations strategies.
-Proofread and edit content produced by others in the office for strong and compelling messaging that reflect CSU mission and to ensure a high level of professionalism and accuracy in what the office produces.
-Support the Senior Manager of Public Affairs, as needed, with research, drafting position statements, and advocacy communications for public affairs audiences.
-Contribute to overall content strategy.
-Adapt communications to resonate with diverse audiences across traditional and digital platforms.
Project Management and Reporting
-Project manage communication campaigns from inception to completion to support campaigns in meeting goals and objectives.
-Lead development and manage office communication strategy projects.
-Track, analyze and create campaign reports to demonstrate effort and outcomes.
-Produce quarterly performance reports.
Other Duties as Needed
-Manage and assist with routine office procedures such as of the News of the CSU daily clips press release distribution, as needed.
-Supports the department strategic communications plan at the direction of the Director and/or Senior Director of Media Relations and Public Affairs.
-Support crisis communications or general public relations-related activities and web updates that support the goals and objectives of the office.
Qualifications
This position requires:
-A bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, English or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience is required.
-Minimum of five years of related professional experience or experience public relations is required.
-Excellent written, proofreading and editing skills under deadline pressure.
-Strong proofreading and editing skills and keen attention to detail to ensure professionalism of content coming out of Media Relations and Public Affairs.
-Ability to manage crises.
-Critical thinking skills to contribute to media and communications strategies, media responses, and analysis and reporting of media relations efforts.
-Excellent organizational and planning skills to manage communications projects.
-Ability to work independently under general supervision with specialized or varied communication assignments related to public affairs, media relations, etc.
-Sound judgement.
-Interpersonal communications skills and professional demeanor. Ability to work in a collegial manner with other professionals.
-Commitment to the highest ethical standards.
-Understanding and sensitivity to the unique academic mission of the CSU system.
Preferred Qualifications
-Master's degree in a related field preferred.

California State University, Office of the Chancellor, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer.
