    We offer a competitive salary with step/pay increases every six (6) months of approximately 2.5% up to top salary step.

    San Bernardino County is recruiting to fill Media Specialist II vacancies for multiple positions throughout the county. There is an immediate vacancy in the County Administrative Office (CAO). The incumbent hired for the CAO will assist in upholding the County’s brand and visual identity across all communications. This position is responsible for reviewing, approving, and refining marketing and design materials to ensure consistency with County branding, high design standards, and ADA compliance.

    The ideal candidate for the CAO vacancy will have a strong background in graphic design, along with experience in marketing, visual communications, and social media strategy. This role supports the County’s outreach and marketing efforts by developing creative content, managing digital and social media presence, and collaborating with internal teams to produce professional, engaging materials that represent the County’s values and programs.

    In other County departments, Media Specialists typically develop, implement and advise management regarding public relations and marketing programs. Incumbents write and distribute informational and educational materials; promote, publicize, and occasionally participate in events, activities and educational and outreach programs; and develop and maintain social media content. They also research and analyze information to develop written documentation, reports, graphs and press releases and prepare marketing analysis and business marketing plans; schedule commercial television and radio airtime, and printed ad space; and may supervise a small staff in the preparation and dissemination of information. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill the current vacancies and any future vacancies as they occur throughout the county.

    Key responsibilities for a Media Specialist II are as follows:

    Brand and Design Review
    • Review and approve design and marketing collateral produced by the organization for adherence to County brand standards, design quality, and ADA compliance.
    • Provide guidance and feedback to ensure all materials meet the County’s professional and visual identity standards.
    • Collaborate with designers and content creators to refine layouts, messaging, and presentation before release.

    Content Creation and Social Media Management
    • Develop engaging written and visual content for marketing, outreach, and social media platforms.
    • Manage and update social media accounts to promote County programs, campaigns, and initiatives.
    • Monitor online engagement and identify opportunities to strengthen public awareness and community connection.

    Marketing and Campaign Support
    • Assist in planning and executing multimedia marketing campaigns that promote County initiatives, events, and public programs.
    • Ensure campaign materials are aligned with County brand strategy and messaging priorities.
    • Support public relations and outreach activities, including media coordination and content preparation.

    Reporting and Analytics
    • Track and analyze the effectiveness of marketing and web content using analytics tools.
    • Prepare reports and recommendations to improve reach and engagement across platforms.

    Collaboration and Communication
    • Partner with internal teams, including communications, marketing, and public information staff, to maintain consistent messaging across all platforms.
    • Gather and share stories, visuals, and project updates that highlight County programs and achievements.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Background Investigation: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, and verification of employment history and education.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County is required to perform duties in the community. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation and may be required to use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

    Shifts: Some positions may require incumbents to work some evenings, weekends, and on-call.
    Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education: A Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Mass Communications, Graphic Design, or other closely related field.

    Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.     Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in two (2) or more of the following areas:
    Graphic design and visual communication, including the creation, review, or approval of marketing and outreach materials for print and digital use;Brand management or design compliance, ensuring consistency with organizational identity and accessibility standards;Marketing or campaign coordination, including planning and supporting outreach initiatives or promotional programs;Social media strategy and management, including developing, posting, and monitoring content for a business, government agency, or organization.
    Qualifying experience must demonstrate strong knowledge of design principles, marketing communication practices, and the ability to maintain a consistent and professional brand presence across multiple platforms. (Posting content to personal social media accounts is not considered qualifying.)

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the following areas:
    • Providing creative direction or oversight of design and marketing collateral to ensure adherence to brand and ADA standards.
    • Developing and implementing social media strategies that enhance community engagement and align with organizational goals.
    • Utilizing advanced features of Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, etc.) or similar professional design software.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support Countywide marketing initiatives and outreach campaigns.
    • Reviewing and refining visual materials to maintain consistency, quality, and professional presentation across all platforms.
    • Demonstrating strong understanding of visual communication, layout, typography, and brand management principles.
    • Presenting information verbally to audiences of varying sizes.
    • Capturing high resolution photographs at a variety of events.

    Candidates who have ADA Compliance knowledge and training are also highly desired and encouraged to apply.
