JOB SUMMARYThe City of San Marcos is looking for energetic individuals to staff our Holiday Camp. The camp provides area children, ages 5 thru 11, with a fun and educational filled holiday break that includes games, activities, crafts, and time outside! This is a temporary employment. The program is
December 29 - 31, 2025, and
January 2, and 5, 2026, totaling five days. There will be
one (1) additional day of training prior to the start of camp (Date TBD). Activity Leaders report to the Youth Services Coordinator and to the Youth Services Specialist in the Coordinator’s absence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Performs child supervision duties for all program activities; administers first aid; enforces adherence to safety rules; fills out handwritten forms; performs safety inspections daily.
- Administers recreation activities on camp site including structured activities; movies, special field trips, crafts, team building activities, and outdoor adventures.
- Maintains campus site area; cleans floors; picks up trash; performs other janitorial work as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Ability to learn and administer first aid.
- Experience working with children required.
COMPETENCIES AND ENVIRONMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of City and departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols relevant to youth programs and recreational activities.
- Skill in effective verbal and written communication to interact professionally with program participants, parents, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Skill in reading and interpreting policies, manuals, and memos, and in preparing clear written reports, activity logs, and safety documentation.
- Ability to supervise children at all times and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging environment.
- Ability to apply policies and procedures appropriately while performing duties in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ability to foster a positive atmosphere that promotes learning, personal growth, and constructive challenge for program participants.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical requirements include lifting up to 30 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, vision, hearing and talking frequently; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing and balancing occasionally.
Working conditions involve indoor and outdoor work, in the heat, sun, high humidity and wind; occasionally exposed to swimming pool chemicals, slippery surfaces; noise around crowds and whistles.
