JOB SUMMARYPerforms routine tasks under direct supervision related to the installation and maintenance of the City’s electric utility system. Assists Lineworkers, trims trees, operates various types of equipment and tools, helps respond to electrical emergencies, and performs other related duties. Regularly rotates between crews and works under the direction of crew members and Electric Distribution Supervisors.

.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following list highlights the main responsibilities of this position. While it covers the core tasks, it may not include every duty that could be assigned. Employees may be asked to take on other responsibilities as needed to support the team and department.
- Assists lineworkers in the field with the installation, maintenance, and removal of utility poles, conductors, and electrical equipment to support safe and reliable electric service.
- Supports the preparation and cleanup of job sites by gathering materials, cleaning equipment, and ensuring tools are ready for use.
- Participates in vegetation management by trimming trees and clearing rights-of-way to maintain safe access to utility infrastructure.
- Uses hand tools, battery-powered tools, and insulated equipment to assist with various field operations under supervision.
- Aids in the installation and grounding of transformers and other electrical components as part of new or replacement service work.
- Works on service trucks to assist with running and changing out electrical services, ensuring timely response to customer needs.
- Performs manual labor such as digging, moving dirt or gravel, and other physical tasks to support utility construction and maintenance.
- Completes routine documentation including time sheets, equipment logs, and transformer data to support operational tracking.
- Participates in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours service needs and emergency situations as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness and safety of the electric utility team.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License is required within one (1) year of employment. A Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) is required within 90 days of employment.
- Shall be required to be “on call” on a rotating basis or as needed to meet business needs.
- Must be able to lawfully report to duty within 1 hour.
- Must respond to calls for assistance with power outages on nights and weekends within one hour.

- Skill in effective verbal and written communication to interact clearly and professionally with coworkers, contractors, and customers.
- Skill in maintaining positive and collaborative working relationships with City departments, external agencies, electrical contractors, and utility customers.
- Skill in using basic computer applications to check email, enter time worked, and complete routine documentation.
- Ability to work safely, efficiently, and productively in a variety of field and operational environments.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including more than 40 hours per week and on an on-call basis, as needed to meet operational demands.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and balancing frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing to heights over thirty- five (35) feet high, talking and foot controls occasionally; crawling rarely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Working conditions can involves exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment/vehicles, high/low voltage electrical currents, hazardous chemicals/materials, wildlife, working at heights or confined spaces.
