Job Description:Maintenance Worker IIIPurpose:Under general supervision, perform building maintenance and plant maintenance tasks
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance.
- Repairs and maintains heating and cooling systems as required. Installs or replaces floors and ceramic tiles. Repairs or replaces electric plugs and cords.
- Drives vehicles as needed.
- Performs service on pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, etc.
- Repacks, changes oil/filters, lubricates, etc.
- Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, and various power saws, i.e. radial arm, skill, etc.
- Operates acetylene cutting torch, welder, etc.
- Performs basic plumbing installations/repairs i.e. install and repair faucets, unclog drains, replace valves, etc.
- Performs semi-skilled carpentry work in the construction and repair of walls, ceilings, etc.
- Operates forklift.
- Reads profiles/blueprints.

- Knowledge of equipment, methods, and materials used in routine painting, basic plumbing, and moderate levels of construction.
- Knowledge of equipment, methods, and materials used in routine carpentry.

Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of building maintenance and construction work, including heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Relevant work experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:Texas Class "C" Operator's License.
Physical Requirements:Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds
Preferred Qualifications:- Proficiency in a computerized work order system(s) and/or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software.
- Minor plumbing experience to include minor leak repair, unclogging drains/toilets.
- General carpentry experience to include erecting walls, taping, repairing, float and painting, installing doors and various types of door frames.
- Locksmith experience to include cutting and repairing commercial locks and keys.
- Hardscaping experience including installation, repair, and maintenance of landscaping features such as pavers, bricks, and stones.
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook.
Notes to Candidate:Location - Various locationsDays and Hours- Monday through Friday: 8-hour shift to be scheduled between the hours of 7:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Hours may change depending on departmental needs.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Driving Requirement: This position requires a
Texas Class "C" Operator's License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Travel:- If the position requires travel, you must meet Driver Safety Program standards, Otherwise, you are responsible for transportation to and from multiple job sites as needed. If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
