Marin County is located northwest of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge and is home to an engaged community of 260,000. The County enjoys an economic base that includes professional services such as insurance, medical, pharmaceutical, technology, financial, and retail employers. Marin’s location in the Bay Area is ideal, and it is known for its combination of rural and suburban lifestyles, entertainment and recreational activities, and mild, year-round climate. Within the County itself, and in less than an hour’s drive, residents can enjoy the majestic coastline, renowned county and state parks, access to the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma Counties, and the variety of all that San Francisco offers.
With an operating budget of $865.8 million (FY 2025/2026 ), the County is comprised of 23 departments with a workforce of approximately 2,400 employees. It is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors representing the five voting districts. The Board’s current priorities include affordable housing and homelessness, climate change resiliency, disaster and emergency preparedness, racial equity for the Marin community, capital infrastructure investment, and community and economic vitality.
Following a reorganization, the County seeks to fill newly established and reenvisioned Assistant County Executive (ACE) positions. Reporting to the County Executive, the ACE drives implementation of County strategic priorities, champions operational excellence, and serves as a key steward of the County’s mission and values. This role provides executive leadership and oversight for an assigned functional group of County departments—spanning finance, people, systems, and operations—to ensure integrated, high-performing, and forward-focused service delivery. The successful candidate will bring strong public sector leadership and administrative acumen; possess experience with policy development and implementation at the enterprise-wide level; have proven ability in strategic planning, innovative program design and service delivery; and have good working knowledge of local government structures and operations, including the functions of County and municipal governments and the funding practices of state and federal agencies.
The annual salary range for the Assistant County Executive is $284,065 to $313,206; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
