RoleUnder general direction, performs skilled and safe work of considerable difficulty in supervising the construction, maintenance and repair of County-maintained roads.
Major Duties, Responsibilities- Assists Roads management with work assignments, supervises crews, and determines priority of work to be done.
- Assigns daily road crew activities.
- Inspects and reviews work in progress and upon completion.
- Oversees ordering and scheduling of supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Coordinates with other Road Construction Supervisors to distribute crew members to meet job requirements.
- Estimates needs and requisitions supplies, materials, tools and equipment for upcoming projects.
- Investigates citizen road complaints.
- Prepares employee performance appraisals and participates in personnel interviews.
- Train, mentor, and motivate crew members.
- Collaborates with Road Management and Supervisory staff on future budget needs and project priorities.
- Supervises snow removal operations.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in road construction, to include two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
Additional Requirements: Must possess a valid Arizona Class A Commercial driver’s license.
Obtain the following provided trainings/certifications within 1 year of employment:
OSHA 30 Certification
OSHA Forklift Certification
ATSSA Flagger Certification
ATSSA Traffic Control Technician Certification
AZ 811 Blue Stake

- Communicate effectively with equipment technicians to facilitate repairs.
- Ensure compliance with department standards.
- Keep accurate and detailed records of the various maintenance activities and road conditions of the county.
- Assist with performance reviews of assigned road crews.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
- Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
- Maintain accurate daily logs.
- Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
- Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
- Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:The work environment is associated with an office and field environment year-round in all weather conditions and may include exposure to loud noise, dangerous emergency situations, dust, fumes, mist, and chemicals.
Physical Requirements:Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stand, walk over rough, uneven, and/or rocky surfaces, and lift up to and carry 50 pounds.
