The Account Management
Intern will assist SJCE on projects that advance data analytics and visualization, billing data operations, customer experience, and revenue protection. Projects may include:
- Utilize data visualizations tools to develop new dashboards to track customer statistics (arrearages, rate plan enrollments, etc.) as well as maintain/improve existing dashboards
- Create and draft specialized reports from raw data sets, and present report findings in written and visual format
- Create customer billing and rate data analysis to support the Customer Service & Key Account programs
- Identify opportunities for streamlining and automation of existing processes and data reports (Net Energy Metering (rooftop solar)true-up, cash out, frequent customer inquiries, etc.)
- Perform updates on existing data sets and reports
- Review internal/external data requests and provide responses
- Develop, run, and identify material issues found in periodic reports that monitor for known billing issues.
- Generate customer lists and data sets in support of Marketing communications.
- Support the operationalization of SJCE programs, such as Hourly Flex Pricing, Electronic Bill Relief, Green Transportation, etc.
- Assist with customer service-related tasks, such as monitoring contact center escalations, public inboxes, and attending community events
Additionally, this intern will help support SJCE’s ongoing work, including attending meetings, developing talking points for account interactions, responding to data requests, tracking customer inquiries, collecting and analyzing data to improve customer experiences, and providing direct customer service.
Pay: Graduate Student Intern: $20.52-$30.30 per hour (unclassified, unbenefited)
This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The actual salary will be determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Duration of Assignment - This internship is expected to run from January 2026 to January 2027. To maintain eligibility, you must be continuously enrolled in a qualifying master’s program. Interns may continue to work for up to six months after graduation.
Work Schedule: During the academic year, interns are recommended to work 24-40 hours per week, with schedules determined collaboratively between the hiring manager and the intern based on student availability and project needs. During summer and winter breaks, interns may work up to 40 hours per week.
Minimum QualificationsTraining and Experience: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's Degree and current
enrollment in a Masters degree program from an accredited college or university in business or public administration
or closely related field.
Licenses and Certificates Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the state of California may be
required in performing job duties.
Desired skills:- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, and Power BI for data analysis, visualization, and presenting insights to stakeholders.
- Experience converting raw, complex datasets into clear and focused specialized reports that support data-driven decision-making.
- Experience working effectively within a team and collaborating with cross-departmental partners to support shared project goals.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
- Relevant coursework or training in sustainability, environmental studies, or energy systems.
- Strong research, note-taking, organizational skills, and ability to support various project needs as required.
- Experience delivering clear and professional customer communication in both written and verbal formats to support effective issue resolution and relationship management.

Part-time positions(less than 40 hours per week) are required to participate in the City’s PTC 457 Deferred Compensation Plan per Federal regulations. Employees are required to contribute 3.75% of gross earning and the City contributes a matching amount of 3.75%. The funds contributed by the City are 100% vested upon initial deferral and will be held in a stability of principal investment. This plan is in lieu of social security and does not include any healthcare benefits or contributions.
Part-time employees may elect to contribute additional retirement savings through the City’s Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. Additional Information on both plans can be found on the
