RoleUnder minimal supervision, performs investigative work of moderate to considerable difficultly conducting thorough and impartial investigations related to criminal cases, civil matters, and other legal issues.
Major Duties, Responsibilities- Develop and maintain records and case files; writes, reviews, and obtains search warrants and arrest warrants; prepares accurate, in-depth written reports.
- Locate and interview witnesses and victims in criminal and civil matters.
- Assist local and out-of-state agencies on investigations and related matters.
- Assist in the preparation of cases for trial.
- Manage and process crime scene investigations; assist other law enforcement agencies with complex investigations; analyze and compile data from investigations to obtain conclusions.
- Operate police vehicles equipped with emergency lights and sirens, computers, and radios.
- Serve criminal and civil subpoenas and warrants.
- Transport and provide security for attorneys, victims, victim advocates, and witnesses; escort attorneys on interviews and crime scene visits; provide courtroom and judicial security; and escort attorneys, victims, victim advocates and witnesses to and from trial.
- May conduct traffic stops, respond to emergencies and/or immediate threats to public safety.
- In confrontational situations, appropriately and effectively responds and uses defensive tactics and techniques, may make arrests.
- Testify in court or Grand Jury proceedings.
- Complete computerized criminal history and background searches.
- Initiate and conduct major felony investigations.
- Conduct and/or participate in required ongoing law enforcement training.
- Assist other agencies with follow-up investigations, gathers evidence and questions witnesses.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of law enforcement experience, to include investigative experience.
Additional Requirements:Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Must be a State of Arizona Certified Peace Officer in good standing.
Must maintain annual certification, including AZPOST certified minimum training and background requirements.

- Respond on short notice to crime scenes and other emergencies at any time, day or night, seven days a week and be available for travel to other cities and states to pursue investigations.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
- Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
- Qualify on duty weapons per Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) requirements.
- Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
- Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:The work environment is associated with an office and/or field environment year-round in all weather conditions and includes exposure to loud noise, blood borne pathogens, dust, fumes, mist, and chemicals. This is a highly public position where contact with public may be in challenging situations.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to occasionally lift and carry items up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to operate a variety of equipment necessary to perform job duties such as motor vehicles, computers, radios, handcuffs, body armor, and other equipment depending on case assignments.
