The Position
Electronic Technician's perform work requiring the application of electronic principles and practices involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, programming and modification of a variety of electronic and computerized equipment.
Under limited supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties in the series concept. This is the journey level in the series.
This position is located at High Desert State Prison(HDSP) in Indian Springs, NV. Electronic Technician's perform work requiring the application of electronic principles and practices involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, programming and modification of a variety of electronic and computerized equipment. Under general direction, incumbents in a non-correctional environment perform the full range of duties in the series concept. The incumbent will be responsible for assembling, testing, calibrating, and repairing a variety of electronic systems and components. This includes identifying and troubleshooting faults within electrical systems and equipment, pinpointing defective parts or components that may be causing abnormal operation in computer systems or associated devices. The role also involves the installation of appropriate computer cabling and cable distribution systems as needed to ensure proper system functionality.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Associate's degree from an accredited college, university, or technical school in electronics or closely related field and one year of experience performing work involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical and computerized equipment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Electronics Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions require passing a non-custody correctional training course. This position requires the State of Nevada certification for fire alarm 'F' card within 90 days of employment. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds overhead. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
