    The Position

    Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.

    Incumbents recommend and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements as permitted by program regulations and guidelines; and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or a staff consisting of several students, volunteers and/or contract staff.

    This position is in the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) within the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation's Las Vegas office. The incumbent will ensure compliance with the law, honor the requirements of the WOIA, and assure that as many BVR participants as possible are participating in work-based learning experiences. This position provides specialized information and services as the technical expert working closely with BVR Counselors to assist in developing a work-based learning plan, determines participants' work capacity, and monitors, evaluates and reports on the performance, progress and outcomes to the BVR Counselor and participant. Major activities include managing the program, providing information and training to employers, community partners, staff, and program participants to ensure understanding and compliance, and monitoring program activities through site visits and monthly meetings with partners. Duties also include reviewing performance reports, annual monitoring and report development, meeting with fiscal and operations staff to ensure program compliance with fiscal requirements; meeting with local employers, community partners, state, and local governmental agencies; providing technical assistance to business partners as related to the client?s performance, expectations, and accommodations, and educating the community about disability issues and agency programs.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI fingerprint based background check is required as a condition of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
