    Job Description:

    Facility Service Specialist

    Purpose:

    This position is responsible for providing maintenance and repairs to assigned buildings, including coordinating internal maintenance personnel or contractor vendors.

    Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Plans and performs basic building repairs and participates in construction/installation activities on assigned projects.
    • Conducts site inspections and reports on maintenance needs and safety violations.
    • Coordinates with contractors, vendors, and other divisions providing maintenance, repairs, and moves to assigned buildings.
    • Calculates figures and compiles data and information for reports, cost estimates, etc.
    • Prepares and maintains status reports on projects.
    • Monitors lease agreements, maintenance contracts, equipment installation contracts, and construction contracts.
    • Research information as requested or needed.
    • Answers questions from internal and external customers.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of facility maintenance.
    • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.
    • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
    • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
    • Knowledge of general maintenance practices.
    • Knowledge of monitoring of contracts and/or vendors.
    • Skill in oral and written communication.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
    • Skill in planning and organizing.
    • Ability to coordinate contract work crews providing maintenance and repairs to a variety of building sites.
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of relevant work experience.

    • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:

    • Class C Driver's License.
    • If required by position: Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL). Specific endorsements may be required to be obtained within 120 days of hire.


    Preferred Experience:
    • Knowledge of facility components such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, septic, and water well systems, and the skill to make repairs to such systems.
    • Knowledge of fence construction and repair techniques, including welding.
    • Ability to travel and work independently in remote areas with minimal oversight.
    • Ability to travel to multiple sites and work locations, including remote locations accessible only on foot.
    • Skill developing and monitoring a variety of contracts related to facility maintenance, including maintenance contracts, equipment installation contracts, and construction contracts.


    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to bend, lift, walk, carry, or use a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.


    Notes to Candidate:

    Position Overview:

    This position will be expected to work in all-weather conditions, performing maintenance and repairs in a rural environment and at other Austin Water facilities, with little to no supervision. These positions' responsibilities include knowledge of general and preventive facilities maintenance on components like HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Septic, and Water well systems. This will also include high game fences (chain-link). Also, able to be proficient in monitoring multiple contracts and contractors when workload goes beyond the scope of the position

    Essential Employee:

    This position has been designated as essential for the City of Austin. Essential positions maintain emergency services or provide public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of the community. In the event of a designated emergency, these positions will be called back or retained to assist with operations and recovery.

    Pay Range:

    $27.77 - $33.95 per hour

    Position(s) will be filled at the following location:

    Waller Creek Center (625 E. 10th St., Austin, TX)

    Days and Hours:

    Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

    Driving Requirement:
    This position requires a valid Texas Class C Driver's License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requirements. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    City Government
