The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 2, within the Child and Adolescent Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) in Las Vegas.
The Mobile Crisis Response Team receives and triages calls from families and community partners, responding in teams to families with children experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis. Responses can take place in schools, homes, and other community settings. Mental Health Counselors are responsible for completing a semi-structured assessment, providing support and immediate interventions, and creating plans jointly with the Psychiatric Caseworker, youth, and family to ensure the safety of the youth and to maintain them in their homes, schools, and communities when able. Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home-based services to children and adolescents in crisis in an outpatient clinic or community setting. Teams can remain in place for up to 45 days to provide clinical and case management services to families. This position will be the clinical lead on the Mobile Crisis Response Team, while Psychiatric Caseworkers take lead on resources. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above. Special Requirements Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria Licensure as a LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, or intern is required within 90 days of hire. Can you meet this requirement? The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
