ABOUT THE POSITIONThere is one (1) full-time position available in the Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Division (BHRS) working on the IMPACT team.
The IMPACT team provides comprehensive assessment, intensive case management, medication management, peer support and other recovery support services that are accessible 24/7 to adults 18 years of age and over. The IMPACT team serves individuals experiencing serious mental illness, co-occurring substance use conditions and/or complex medical issues. In addition, individuals may be experiencing episodes of homelessness, frequent hospitalization, crisis service utilization, and justice involvement. The IMPACT team is leading efforts to operate as an Assertive Community Treatment team, whose core values are rooted in recovery and resiliency, and delivering community-based services in an integrated, holistic and person-centered manner.
Under the direction of the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Unit Supervisor, the Social Service Worker II will serve as a co-occurring substance use specialist. They will be responsible for providing recovery-focused substance use screening, assessment, counseling and case management services for IMPACT clients, as well as providing consultation and coordinating care with other IMPACT team members, a client’s natural supports and community partners to provide a comprehensive and holistic treatment experience.
This position requires travel throughout Marin County, including providing field-based services.
In addition to the minimum qualifications outlined below, a current Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services Certificate or an Associate license is required. AOD Certification Requirement for this position:
Candidates must be a registered or certified AOD counselor before beginning employment and hold an active certification throughout employment from one of the following accredited organizations: California Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators (CAADE); California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (CADTP); California Consortium of Addition Programs and Professionals (CCAPP).
Candidates licensed by the State of California, Board of Behavioral Sciences as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor OR must be professionally licensed as a Clinical Psychologist issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Psychology may be substituted for the AOD Certification Requirement.
ABOUT YOUOUR HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATEOur highly qualified candidate is AOD certified and has experience providing recovery-oriented substance use assessment, treatment and case management services for individuals with complex co-occurring serious mental illness and substance use conditions, as well as knowledge of applicable evidence-based practices, such as Motivational Interviewing and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model. They provide a welcoming environment for clients at any stage of readiness and should be able to manage crisis. The candidate will be able to document complex clinical information quickly, accurately, and concisely in an electronic health record, and utilize this information to develop a care plan. They will work both independently, exercising considerable judgement and excel in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team environment.
The highly qualified candidate also possesses effective verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational and excellent time management skills, and the ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced and evolving work environment.
QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of:

- Methods of social work record keeping, including computer applications related to the work.
- Community organizations and resources and the social problems calling for the use of public and private resources.

- Laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of a social service agency.
- Goals of and current trends toward client rehabilitation.
- If assigned to the HIV Program, the medical, psycho-social and economic components of the various stages of HIV.
Ability to:
- Analyze client situations and social services needs.
- Develop, prepare and implement effective case work plans.
- Apply applicable laws, rules and regulations to social service operations.
- Interpret social service programs to applicants, recipients and others.
- Use appropriate community resources and services effectively.
- Utilize supervision and direction effectively.
- Direct the work of others on a project basis.
- Prepare clear, concise and accurate case records, reports, correspondence and other written materials.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEither possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work or a Master's degree in a two year counseling program by the time of appointment,
or possession of a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with coursework related to the field and four years of journey level social casework experience of which two years were in adult social services at a level comparable to the County's classes of Social Service Worker I or Social Service Worker I - Bilingual.
