    Overview

    The Mechanic Foreman will manage personnel and repairs in a Heavy Equipment and Light Equipment mechanic shop. This position keeps communication with vendors and City Departments regarding work to be performed. The incumbent will research pricing for parts and outside repair costs. The Foreman attends meetings with upper management and City departments on repairs status. This position reports directly to the General Foreman with all personnel and mechanical repair issues.

    Responsibilities

    • Plans and organizes staff to ensure proper operations, repairs and maintenance to vehicle and Equipment is completed

    • Supervises maintenance repairs by establishing work priorities

    • Communicates with City Department personnel concerning repairs to department fleet

    • Conducts periodic inspections of all equipment repairs

    • Provides operational and technical updates to the General Foreman

    • Oversees diagnosis of vehicles and equipment, supervise adjustments made to specifications

    • Ensures mechanical work is performed within manufacturer specifications and safety regulations and provide proper training, direction and manages assigned staff to achieve the city's goal

    • Oversees Maintenance records of all equipment

    • Develop maintenance requirements and schedules for equipment

    • Monitors purchases of parts, tools and materials used for mechanical repairs

    • Coordinates with Service Writers to process bids and quotes for outside vendors labor costs and repairs to vehicles and equipment to be sent to vendor repair shops; thus, keeping the cost of outside repairs within the adopted budget

    • Develop fair and equitable performance standards for subordinates and evaluate work performance

    • Makes selections for subordinate positions

    • Notifies General Foreman of any disciplinary actions required

    • Inspects safety of shop and oversee implementation of safety or job sites

    • Approves and monitors all actions required to ensure compliance with all Manufacturer specifications

    • Maintains all professional and technical knowledge and skills required to keep the repairs shop productive and verify all mechanical licenses and certifications are current

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Exempt - Full-Time-Monday-Friday-8:00am-5:00pm

    • Must be available to work additional hours as needed

    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/GED

    • Five (5) years of experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

    Required within one (1) year of hire

    • Class A Commercial Driver License with X Hazmat Endorsement

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
