Overview This position must become an expert on all building, zoning, fire and life safety codes, mechanical and electrical codes and other applicable regulations concerning public safety. This position will review building plans to ensure compliance before construction and inspect existing buildings for code and zoning compliance. This position will issue citations/stop work orders for buildings found to be out of compliance.
Responsibilities • Evaluates building and property development plans to ensure all relevant codes, ordinances and applicable regulations are observed. Coordinates with contractors, developers, and customers, as appropriate and assists in resolving construction problems and disputes
• Inspects existing buildings upon complaints for code and/or zoning violations. Enforces building code and zoning violations found during inspections. Prepare documentation supporting citation/stop work order for use in court, if necessary
• Examine plans submitted for new construction, renovations, and alterations to assure compliance with all applicable building codes, statues, and zoning by-laws. Approves plans, safety and zoning requirement issues building, demolition, sign, fence, pool, etc
• Performs highly responsible duties of a technical nature requiring considerable judgment in application, interpretation and enforcement of building, zoning, energy, fire and life safety codes, mechanical and electrical codes and other applicable regulations concerning public safety
• Responds to questions from both homeowners and professionals in the field. Research and resolve difficult issues, works to find amicable solutions that meets or exceeds code requirements. Works hand-in-hand with all other city departments by providing technical information.
• Proactively pursues work without permit operations and investigates all such inquiries.

Qualifications
• Associate's degree (AA/AS); or two (2) year technical certificate
• Four (4) years of experience or knowledge of construction or other related fields
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• ICC Zoning Inspector required within one (1) year of hire
• ICC Property Maintenance Inspector within one (1) year of hire
• ICC Residential Inspector or ICC Commercial Inspector within one (1) year of hire
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
• Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
