OverviewThe crew lead is responsible for leading a crew in the operation and maintenance of the water system and wastewater collection system. This position is responsible for training, public safety, and procedure compliance of assigned staff and workload. The crew lead will perform little to no supervision, after-hours, and has significant engagement with contractors and residents. This position will report to a foreman or higher position that will delegate work schedules and expectations.
Responsibilities • Ensure crews daily assignments are completed
• Perform, lead and train crews to install, repair and maintain water distribution and wastewater collection systems
• Operate Backhoe and large excavation equipment
• Train employees for CDL and proper equipment operation
• Ensure proper dosing and disinfection of water mains and repair material
• Review, interpret, and train crew members on maps, plans, and drawings
• Create permits for street cuts and confined space entry
• Ensure traffic control plans, trench safety, and worksite safety practices are followed
• Coordinate installation of well point and by-pass pumps
• Use internal software to create work orders and include associated information
• Provide customer service to citizens
• Coordinate activities on the job site with engineers, construction inspectors, consultants and customers
• Perform, lead and train crews to conduct wastewater system maintenance, cleaning and videoing (CCTV)
• Plan, lead and perform installation of large volume commercial and residential meters
• Perform, train, and schedule crews to install, program, and maintain AMR components and conduct water service turn off/turn on for all customers
• Perform, lead and train crew members to properly investigate and mitigate issues on water distribution and wastewater collection systems
• May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non- Exempt - Full-Time
• Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm with a 1-hour lunch - this position works overtime and rotates being on-call
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Four (4) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
• Class B CDL at time of hire for the Wastewater Plant and Water Plant
• Any one of the following TCEQ licenses is required at time of hire: Class I Collections, Class D Water Operator, Class D Water Distribution, Class D Surface Water, or Class D Ground Water

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
