    ABOUT THE POSITION

    THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.

    The Clark County Fire Department is seeking a qualified individual to join their team as a Fire Materials Controller. In this role, you will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Fire/EMS Warehouse, including assigning work to the storekeepers and part time Warehouse workers, managing all aspects of inventory using Operative IQ, goods receipting supplies received, and supporting the Special Events Division's readiness and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have experience working with public safety personnel, excellent communication and team building skills, and Warehouse experience. Skill in using the SAP financial module and Operative IQ Inventory Management system is preferred.

    This position is a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1908 Union. All Union Rules and Regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures must be followed. This position will start at the bottom of the advertised pay scale, and increases are provided as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time experience as a stock clerk, storekeeper, warehouse worker or in similar work. Prior lead or supervisory experience and experience in a Fire department setting are desirable.

    Working Conditions: Work scheduled off-hour shifts and/or be called back in emergency situations. May work out of doors in all weather conditions. May work with exposure to potentially hazardous materials.

    Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license.

    Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of storekeeping and related staff.
    • Recommends selection of staff; trains staff and provides for their development; administers discipline as required.
    • Assists in planning goals, objectives, procedures and work standards for the materials control function of the department to which assigned; provides input into the unit's budget as related to fire materials and supplies.
    • Confers with purchasing staff regarding annual contracts, stock levels, required parts, material and supplies, inventory control processes and related matters; develops contract requirements for various commodities.
    • Forecasts material and supply requirements based upon past demand, current purchasing and inventory practices and projected needs to ensure that adequate quantities and types of materials will be available to meet departmental or agency needs.
    • Oversees the maintenance of and personally maintains inventory control records; coordinates physical inventories and prepares and reconciles reports of inventory status.
    • Contacts vendors regarding delivery, quality and quality problems; arranges for the return of damaged or incorrect materials and supplies; maintains a current knowledge of materials and supplies used by the department to which assigned and makes recommendations for purchase.
    • Performs the full range of storekeeping duties, such as: unpacking materials, supplies, tools and equipment and verifying articles received against packing lists and purchase orders and notes discrepancies or damaged items; issuing materials, supplies and equipment to departmental staff upon presentation of appropriate request forms; packing and returning damaged, surplus, inappropriate or outdated material.
    • Establishes stock levels; prepares requisitions for orders against outstanding contractual agreements with vendors.
    • Ensures that the storage areas are maintained in a clean and orderly condition and that employees follow all safety procedures.
    • Prepares correspondence, reports and a variety of written materials.
    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
    • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
    • May drive a motor vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies; may use material handling equipment, depending upon the department to which assigned.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in a typical stores or warehouse setting, including operating standard office equipment; stamina to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time; mobility to drive a motor vehicle and/or operate material handling equipment; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials including a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
