The Position
Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators.
Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept to include journey level duties such as extensive electrical and fuel system diagnosis and repair work, rebuilding complete transmissions, converting surplus military vehicles to fire apparatus, and performing mechanical inspections of vehicles involved in accidents. Incumbents may provide training, work direction and review to semi-skilled equipment shop staff such as Equipment Mechanic I's, Fleet Service Workers, students, and inmate workers. This is the journey level in the series.
The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) is recruiting for an open Equipment Mechanic 2 at their Western Region Headquarters located at 885 Eastlake Blvd. in Washoe Valley. This position reports to the Equipment Mechanic 3. This position is responsible for performing services and repairs to NDF Fleet vehicles and equipment ranging from light to heavy diesel and gasoline component pieces. In addition, the incumbent is required to utilize fleet management software for data entry pertaining to services and repairs as well as ordering and receiving parts. This position plays a vital role concerning the mission success of the agency and the conservation and protection of the State's wildland resources. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprentice-ship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR one year experience as an Equipment Mechanic I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Applicants must attach verification of successful completion of an apprenticeship program and/or experienced gained through an apprenticeship program at the time of application. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Some positions require incumbents to furnish their own mechanic's tools. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law required random testing for controlled substances during employment. Additional Position Criteria Candidate must furnish their own tools. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
