    Job Summary

    The ideal candidate:

    • Interest in learning and performing a variety of building maintenance trades
    • Painting experience, including surface preparation, is highly desirable
    • Ability to perform installations, routine maintenance, and emergency repairs
    • Basic to working knowledge of tools, materials, and safety practices
    • Willingness to work with electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and building systems
    • Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to follow work orders and procedures
    • Effective team player with the ability to work independently when needed

    HIRING RANGES:

    Level I: $3,879 - $4,267/Mo.

    Level II: $4,286 - $4,715/Mo.

    Qualifications

    The MINIMUM: and preferred requirements are listed below.     Education and Experience:

    Building Maintenance Technician I:
    MINIMUM: Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year building trades experience which has involved carpentry, electrical, plumbing or heating/air conditioning.
    PREFERRED: In addition to the minimum, completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a designated skilled trade, Certification within a related trade, and two additional years of responsible experience performing building and grounds maintenance or the repair and construction of buildings.

    Building Maintenance Technician II:
    MINIMUM: Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years building trades experience which has involved carpentry, electrical, plumbing or heating/air conditioning with at least one (1) year equivalent to the County’s class of Building Maintenance Technician I.
    PREFERRED: In addition to the minimum, completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a designated skilled trade, Certification within a related trade, and up to five (5) years of responsible experience performing buildings and grounds maintenance or the repair and construction of buildings.
    Licenses and Certification:
    • The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.

    Special Requirements:
    • Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which includes Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
    • DMV printout prior to hire.
    • Upon conditional offer of employment, candidates must submit to and pass a medical evaluation for respirator use.
    • Facial hair must be maintained in such a way as to ensure proper fit of respiratory protection devices.
    • Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
