Why you’ll love this position: The equipment technician intern performs entry-level skilled work in the maintenance and repair of light vehicles and heavy construction equipment. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
- Maintains and performs basic repairs to automobiles, trucks, tractors, loaders, motor graders and other heavy equipment.
- Inspects, services, repairs and overhauls transmissions, engines, clutches, drivelines, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies and ignition systems; repairs and installs hydraulic controls; tunes motors using standard testing equipment; dismantles, repairs and reassembles air compressors, hydraulic jacks, pumps, cylinders and related equipment.
- Inspects, repairs, overhauls and assembles automotive components such as alternators, distributors and starters.
- Completes mandated fleet inspections and ensures all equipment meets OSHA standards and all repairs and modifications are done in accordance with operational specifications and safety standards.
- May weld and modify equipment and fabricate parts.
- Reviews equipment maintenance records and observes employees in the operation of equipment to determine and correct operator error and ensure proper maintenance.
- Gathers computerized diagnostic information to assess vehicle repair needs.
- Requisitions and stores shop supplies.
- Installs vehicle body components, lights, light brackets, mirrors, decals and other accessories.
- Reports out-of-service equipment and estimated time needed for service in order to schedule future work.
- Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Minimum Requirements: - Enrolled in a relevant 2-year/associate’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours) in Diesel Mechanics, Auto Mechanics, Automotive Technology. OR
- Enrolled in a formal post-secondary technical training program in automobile or heavy equipment-related repair.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and medical-physical examination.
