Overview Public Works Foreman's work closely with the Work Coordinators to develop work plans, monitor resource availability, assess critical issues, vehicle maintenance schedules, and develop safety plans to maximize productivity and efficiency of field staff. They also oversee the daily operations by monitoring job site progress and prioritizing work orders using a computerized maintenance management system.
Responsibilities - Ensure that they and all field staff obey all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicles and equipment from one location to another
- Be able to operate on even or uneven terrain such as streets & earthen rights-of-way
- Performing daily Pre/Post-trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
- Ensure all field staff follows the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
- Direct traffic control at the job site by flagging, adding cones, barrels, and barricades
- Know how to set up message boards, water barriers, Type I, II, III barricades during normal & emergency operations
- Public Works Foreman is required to perform administrative duties by completing work orders, injury & accident reports, time detail edits, maintaining material inventory, and completing disciplinary documentation
- PW Foreman assists in filling vacancies within the division, training new employees, and re-train existing employees to ensure they are meeting Public Works & City standards
- At times, Public Works Foreman may be required to operate machinery, power tools, or drive employees to and from various locations
- Respond to after hours and weekends emergencies
- Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event. Example; Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency
- All employees will work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses
- Perform with a professional mind set.
- Keep materials stock in vehicles assignment, must communicate when supply/material are low
- Able to work in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/or elevated conditions
- Must be able to evaluate safe work conditions
- Must be proficient in decision making
- Must be able to lead their team
- Must be able to lead Public Works Tech I, Public Works Tech II & Public Works Tech Ill's
- Must be able to communicate with internal or external customers
- Be professional under any conditions. When given a request, ensure proper communication with the foreman, work coordinator, planner/ scheduler, and assistant director
- Complete daily reports, work orders
- All reports and work orders must be legible

- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work - Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
- Must be available to work additional hours as needed
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma / GED
- Six (6) years of experience
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements Required - Valid Texas Class B (CDL) With Air brake endorsement
- Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging (acquired within 6 months)
- Certification in Confine Space (acquired within 6 months)
- Certification in Trenching and Shoring (acquired within 6 months)
- City Leadership program (acquired within 6 months)
Preferred - Texas Class A (CDL) With Air brake endorsement preferred

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
