    The Animal Services Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of animal control and shelter. The coordinator manages staff and volunteers, maintains facilities and equipment, interacts with the public and ensures that shelter animals receive proper care. Additionally, the Animal Services Coordinator may be responsible for fostering good community relations. The Animal Services Coordinator is responsible for assisting with planning and securing the ongoing stability of the Weatherford Animal Shelter by building and managing the financial, operating, and administrative systems infrastructure. The incumbent, with the Animal Services Manager, sets goals, monitors work and evaluates results to ensure the shelter’s objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and missions of the Weatherford Animal Shelter. This position will also oversee the programs of Volunteer and Outreach. The Animal Services Coordinator will serve as the team leader responsible for managing community outreach efforts, animal intake and evaluation, play a key role in the fund development efforts, educational outreach, and responsible pet ownership educational efforts, as well as the overall recruitment, training, and management of volunteers serving the department.

    Animal Service Coordinator Job Description

    Roles & Responsibilities Include:
      • Develops, implements, and monitors programs to maintain and improve the standards of humane animal care and customer services to the animals and the community. Ensures quality of programs and services are in accordance to the City of Weatherford’s and the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter’s procedure and philosophy. Develop annual goals that include timetables, procedures and accountabilities.
      • Directs and supervises functions of the Weatherford Animal Shelter, including but not limited to Animal Care Specialists, Outreach and Engagement Officer, and volunteers in the performance of their responsibilities. Acts as Animal Services Manager in lieu of Animal Services Manager’s absence.
      • Directs and monitors all aspects of the constant humane treatment and handling of sheltered animals. Monitors the maintenance, cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, animal care, and customer service areas.
      • Ensures that Weatherford’s Shelter and Animal Control are following all guidelines as set forth by the law and government contracts. Acts as a liaison at contract negotiations and ensures that all requirements are being met. Provides reports as needed. Monitors statistics on animal population.
      • Assists in the development of an annual budget for operational divisional activities and ensures that it is adhered to, as well as reviews financial reports. Maintains department monthly and yearly statistics.
      • Actively participates in other departmental programs and projects including marketing, fundraising, outreach, volunteer programs and organizational services as needed and appropriate.
      • Develops and maintains the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as well as emergency and disaster plans.
      • Informs individuals on the responsibility of pet ownership and City ordinance pertaining to animals within the city limits.


    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, Business, or related field, or comparable years of work experience to match the level of expected experience. • Four (4) years of management experience. • Must possess or be able to obtain Basic Animal Control Certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health within 180 days of employment. • Must possess or be able to obtain Euthanasia Certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health within 180 days of employment. • Must have a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
