ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified applicants to apply for the Systems Programmer I/II position. This position p erforms installation, monitoring, maintenance, and modification of computer system software, including operating systems, control and communication software, systems utilities and other applications/services as appropriate to the County's computing environment.
Additionally, this position focuses on the setup, configuration, and management of monitoring for IT systems, infrastructure, and airline systems. The primary objective is to ensure that all IT systems function at optimal performance levels, maintaining high availability while proactively addressing potential issues. A crucial responsibility includes identifying and responding to system anomalies, performance bottlenecks, or potential failures before they escalate into service interruptions.
Systems Programmer I: $35.38/Hourly - $52.32/Hourly
Systems Programmer II: $38.23/Hourly - $56.51/Hourly The Systems Programmer I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Systems Programmer II.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience:Systems Programmer I - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Processing, Mathematics, or a field related to the work AND two (2) years of full-time professional experience in applications or systems programming. Additional experience in systems analysis and/or programming may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years. Systems Programmer II - In addition to the above: Two (2) years of full-time professional level experience in the installation and maintenance of operating system software for large-scale computers.All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Installs, configures and modifies large scale computer operating systems, utility programs, data base management systems, application development systems, telecommunications systems, and third- party application systems.
- Performs assembler and higher language programming to support inter-data base, inter-system and inter-computer interfaces.
- Analyzes and solves day-to-day terminal and network problems reported by users; uses network commands and software analysis tools to solve the problems.
- Modifies, tests and implements changes to County communications software to improve performance and to accommodate changes.
- Coordinates with applications programming staff to determine modifications necessary to systems software, tables and parameter lists to support the installation of new applications.
- Installs, tests and implements vendor supplied modifications to existing software.
- Evaluates, tests and recommends hardware and software to meet ongoing County computing requirements.
- Plans and develops test data to validate new or modified programs; designs input and output forms and documents.
- Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, as needed, for customers, other agencies and information systems personnel.
- Maintains records and written documentation of systems installations, modifications, and security.
- Maintains current knowledge of technology and new computer customer applications.
- Monitors system performance related data on a daily basis and modifies appropriate system tuning parameters to correct and prevent problems.
- Confers with and instructs applications programmers, computer operators and customer department staff in mainframe, mid-range and personal computer systems.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
