IT Network Technician I

Overview

Provides daily operations support and maintenance for network systems and radio communications for the Public Safety Radio System. Maintains network and radio operations by working with team members, hardware/software tools and applications, and in various departments with internal and external customers to ensure timely problem resolution. Responsible for troubleshooting, resolving and documenting incidents, providing consistent and reliable radio communications, participates in afterhours support, and other duties as assigned. Required to have customer interface skills, basic network skills, basic radio communications skills, and be of professional character.

Responsibilities

• Work outdoors, at various heights with appropriate safety gear

• Work with 700/800 MHz P25 and VHF/UHF radio systems

• Install, program, and configure radio systems components, repeaters, multi-couplers, combiners, antenna systems, power systems, and dispatch equipment for P25 systems

• Setup, configure, and utilize RF subsystem devices

• Understand wired and wireless communications protocols

• Administer the maintenance, support, and design of the P25 radio system and network including monitoring, system testing, and diagnostics

• Maintain safety and technical knowledge and develop SOP's

• Pull cable, mount network components, install patch panels and wall plugs, mount video assets, and mount wireless assets

• Work with customers in resolving basic communication issues

• Document and report within the City help desk application

• Provide customer interface, communication, and follow up for the timely resolution of tasks and issues

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Six (6) months to one (1) year of related job experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

• Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check

• Must be able to attend and pass pre-approved Cisco, Fiber, or relevant technical courses

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
