    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    MILITARY EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCE:

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Under the direction of the Data Management Officer, this position performs moderately complex (journey-level) data analysis and data research work, including working with the enterprise-wide data management and governance program. Works closely with data custodians on implementation of data standards, data classification, metadata management, and data quality. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, or closely related field.

    Experience:

    Three years experience in data analytics, data management, or related data focused roles.

    Licensure:

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.



    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS

    Education:

    One additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for 30 semester hours of required education, up to a maximum of 120 semester hours.



    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience:

    Experience with data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI

    Experience working on organizational data management programs

    Licensure:

    Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification (PL-300).



    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of statistics and analyzing data sets;

    Knowledge of running queries, report writing, and presenting findings;

    Knowledge of record keeping, including security procedures for handling, protecting, and distributing confidential data;

    Knowledge of data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques;

    Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to Information Technology and Data Management;

    Knowledge of data management best practices;

    Knowledge of the data lifecycle;

    Knowledge of research techniques;

    Knowledge of program management processes and techniques.

    Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software;

    Skill in conducting data searches;

    Skill in evaluating and translating large amounts of data;

    Skill in critical thinking;

    Skill in using Microsoft Office programs;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication with both technical and non-technical audiences;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

    Ability to compile, review, and analyze data

    Ability to prepare reports

    Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail

    Ability to process information logically;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.



    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday; alternative work schedules may be available.

    Required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.

    Required to pass a national fingerprint-based background check to maintain employment.

    Required to operate a state vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
