    DESCRIPTION

    THE CITY OF PLACENTIA IS NOW RECRUITING FOR THE POSITION OF
    PART-TIME COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAM COORDINATOR



    The filing deadline is January 25, 2026, or when 30 applications are received, whichever comes first.

    This is a part-time position. May work an average of 20-30 hours per week.

    Under the direction of the Community Services Coordinator, the Community Services Program Coordinator coordinates and oversees the operations of designated recreation facilities and community centers; plans and organizes special events; develops, promotes, oversees, and evaluates recreation programs; supervises and schedules work of part-time and seasonal staff; and performs other related duties as assigned.

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS (For use in a job series only)

    The Community Services Program Coordinator is distinguished from the Community Services Specialist and leaders by its greater administrative, budgeting, and supervisory control and decision-making authority with respect to recreation and community services programs and events. The Community Services Program Coordinator receives direction from the Community Services Coordinator, who is accountable for programs and events at all of the City’s various centers. The Community Services Coordinator collaborates closely with the Community Services Supervisor to plan and evaluate programs, aligning with City needs and priorities.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
    • Plan, organize and coordinate recreation and leisure programs for all age groups, which may include after school programs, sports, special interest classes, excursions, and special events; develop new program ideas, goals, and objectives, and related programs.
    • Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the community centers and recreation facilities; maintain a variety of files, records, and database information related to programs, participants, and activities.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with area schools and community groups.
    • Plan and organize special events; order supplies and equipment; contact instructors and other service providers; coordinate facility usage.
    • Schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of staff and contractors; assist in recruiting, hiring and conducting new employee orientation; plan and coordinate staff assignments, projects, and work schedules.
    • Coordinate and develop a monthly calendar of activities and special events; design, write, and disseminate program and event publicity materials, including flyers, brochures, and pamphlets.
    • Ensure community centers and recreation facilities are appropriately maintained; report repair or maintenance needs to the Community Services Coordinator, as well as safety incidents, and monitor conditions for safety compliance.
    • Provide effective communication with the contract instructors for marketing needs, roster, issues and payments.
    • Compile data for daily, monthly, and annual center and activity reports indicating program attendance, revenues, maintenance and repairs, incidents, accidents, and participation rates in various programs.
    • Assist in preparation of the annual program and facility budgets; monitor expenses and revenue by account and maintain financial records.
    • Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment lists, and other records.
    • Prepare and present written and oral information to program participants, school officials, and community groups regarding program services and events; prepare agendas, staff reports, and correspondence.
    • Serve as City representative to committees, commissions, program participants, community groups, and school officials, within and outside of the City.
    • Assess program and staff service delivery daily; recommend improvements.
    • Act on behalf of the Community Services Coordinator, when assigned.

    OTHER DUTIES:
    • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.


    TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

    A high school diploma or GED or equivalent, supplemented by college-level course work in recreation, business administration, public administration, or a related field, and two years of recreation and program planning experience.

    LICENSE(S) REQUIRED:

    Valid, current driver’s license.
    • The City reasonably expects driving to be one of the job functions for the position, and the City reasonably believes that using an alternative form of transportation would not be comparable in travel time or cost to the City.

    CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING REQUIRED:
    • First Aid certification and CPR certification are required within one year of assignment to this classification.

    In accordance with California Government Code Section 3100, City of Placentia employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to protect the health, safety, lives, and property of the people of the State.

    Retirement - California Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) PST Deferred Compensation Plan. Contribution to this account is 7.5% per pay period, the City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% deducted from salary. Additionally, employee pays 1.45% towards Medicare per paycheck.

    Part-Time Alternative Health and Wellness (AHW) Leave -Sick leave equivalent accrues at 1 hour per 30 hours worked, max 40 hours per year, max accrual bank of 80 hours.
