    As an intern with the Facilities Operations team, you will have the opportunity to build for a stronger tomorrow by applying your diverse background, education, and work experiences to the safe, efficient, and secure operations of facilities within the Central region, including the Missouri State Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, and other areas of public interest and historical significance within the Capitol Complex.

    This internship will help you gain real-world experience to bolster your resume, build your soft and technical skills, and help establish your career. The internship schedule is flexible at 20-40 hours per week.

    This position is with the Office of Administration Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction’s (OA-FMDC) Facilities Operations team, supporting the Central Region. OA-FMDC is committed to strengthening the State’s investments while providing a safe and secure environment through innovative design solutions and excellent customer service.

    FMDC Vision - Building for a Stronger Tomorrow (BFAST)

    • Prioritize excellent customer service for a wide and diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to internal teams, state agencies, state officials, contractors, and the public.
    • Assist FMDC Operations Managers and Supervisors in daily operation of facilities in the Central Region
    • Assist Specialized Trades Workers with daily maintenance and performing work orders
    • Attend pre-construction and construction progress meetings in the facilities under Central Region Operations' purview
    • Shadow and assist with installations, repairs, and maintenance, as well as preventative and corrective work orders.
    • Provide support in performing system inspections, diagnosing issues, and recommending solutions.
    • Help maintain inventory, workspaces, machinery, and equipment.
    • Carry your state-issued cell phone with them during your work shift and brings your work cell phone home with you after your normal shift ends. While off shift, team members shall respond timely to urgent texts, phone calls, voicemails, chat messages, and emails. It is pertinent to note that having your state-issued cell phone on does not mean you are on call after your work shift ends.
    • Follow all OA-FMDC health and safety protocols in addition to OSHA standards.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and lead with integrity in a manner that inspires trust and builds positive rapport with a diverse group of stakeholders and the public.
    • Current enrollment in bachelor’s degree program, technical college, or vocational college
    • General knowledge of construction and trade areas, safety practices, and methods.
    • Ability to identify construction or maintenance issues and propose resolutions.
    • The ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical manuals.
    • Excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, conflict management, and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability to properly lift and carry 50 pounds.
    • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from Missouri or from an adjacent state if you reside outside of Missouri.


    Preferred Field(s) of Study

    • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) Technology,
    • Facilities Management and Operations,
    • Electrical Technology,
    • Construction; or
    • Another related field

    The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

    Authorization to work in the United States is a prerequisite of employment. The Office of Administration will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

    *This position is physically demanding. Examples of job duties may include prolonged periods of walking/standing/sitting/bending/driving, climbing ladders, ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, working in inclement weather and working on uneven or elevated surfaces. This list is not all inclusive, but a general representation of duties that may be encountered in this position, however other duties may be assigned contingent upon business needs. Please note, this position is considered a “Category 2” under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), meaning the incumbent will be compensated for overtime (hours actually worked over forty hours in a workweek) at the rate of time and one-half.
