This is security and customer service work of routine difficulty in patrolling and safeguarding the Arts and Science Parking Garage and providing customer service and information to the public. An employee in this class is responsible for patrolling buildings and grounds to guard and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Possible work shifts including assigned weekends and holidays are:6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (First Shift); or2:00 PM to 10:30 PM (Second Shift); or10:00 PM to 6:30 AM (Third Shift) All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this position. - Patrols an assigned area in and around City garages; secures doors and windows; reports fire hazards and other security issues
- Performs surveillance of City property by observing television monitors and responding to incidents observed
- Reports disturbances or suspicious circumstances which require police presence
- Operate communication systems, such as assigned radios and other security related equipment
- Writes incident reports as necessary on unusual security issues
- Provides customer service and information to the public
- Removes debris/cleans up any trash or materials which may create a safety hazard
- Performs related work as required
When assigned to Parking Services- Patrols and prevents admittance of unauthorized vehicles to City property and maintains records of authorized vehicles for assigned areas
- Issues parking tickets to violators at meters, employee only parking areas, and short-term parking areas
- Coordinates reserved parking requests for special events
- May work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed, to fulfill the 24/7 operation
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must have at least (1) year of related experience including some security and customer service work.
- Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week during the available shift. All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this position.
- Required to work assigned weekends and holidays.

PREFERENCES:1. Prior security guard and/or customer service experience, preferably for a public parking facility.
2. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook.
3. The ability to communicate in various languages is a plus.
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Employees will walk or stand for extended periods of time. The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available.
